Our class missed a day of school and went on a field trip to York College and Conewago Enterprises. I enjoyed and learned a lot from this trip. First, we went to York College and visited their engineering department. Freshman year, in IED, we also went to York college and we learned a lot of the same information but it was still nice to get a little recap since my classmates and I are getting closer to deciding what we want to do for the rest of our life. The Engineering Department at York College is very nice and I like the feel/ environment the department gives off. One thing that is a real asset to the department is that the professors want their students to come in during their office hours to talk to them and ask them questions if they have any or don't understand what is going on in class, etc. Even if their students don't have any questions, they enjoy just having the company of their students having a conversation with them about anything.
After having lunch at York College, we went to Conewago Enterprises. At Conewago Enterprises we were taken on a tour around there job site, where they keep all of their materials, where they test materials, etc. We were given safety goggles, bright vests, helmets and ear plugs to wear for safety precautions. It seems like an interesting and fun job to go to everyday but I do not think it would be a job for me. We learned a lot about all the concrete walls, brick walls, etc that they make for clients. One thing that was really interesting to me was that they use real brick in their concrete patterns. After we were finished at Conewago Enterprises we headed back to school to finish out the day.
Overall, I really enjoyed this field trip; it was nice to go out into the industry for a day to see some of the options we have for after high school. I learned a lot and saw some things that people do not realize happen everyday.
